Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without having a traditional Christmas pudding recipe to try.  The variations used throughout the years are endless, you can use mincemeat, pumpkin or cranberry sauce.  Traditional Christmas pudding recipes also vary a great deal in their preparation, and how long it takes to prepare and cook them.  One recipe that has gotten great reviews, and is a little simpler to prepare is a Traditional Steamed Christmas Pudding recipe found on allrecipes.com.

The ingredients start with 1 ½ cup self rising flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 eggs well beaten, ¼ melted butter, ½ cup prepared mincemeat pie filling, ½ cup whole cranberry sauce, ½ cup pumpkin puree, 1 (8oz) container sour cream, 1 (8oz) container cream cheese, 1/3 cup powdered sugar.

After you have collected your ingredient, grease one 2 quart lidded, pudding mold.  Sift together the flour, the sugar and the cinnamon, and set aside for later use.  In a large mixing bowl, mix together the eggs, butter, mincemeat, cranberry sauce and the pumpkin.  Add these ingredients to the flour mixture and mix until smooth, then pour into your greased pudding mold.  Place a wire rack into the bottom of a large pot on your stove, over medium heat.  Fill half of the way up with boiling water.  Place the pudding onto the rack, and steam for 2 ½ hours.  Check your pan occasionally, and add more water to the bottom if it is needed.  Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center.  When it is firm, place the pudding mold on a rack outside of the water and let set for 10 minutes, and then unmold.  Prepare the sauce by blending together the sour cream, cream cheese and powdered sugar, spoon over your warm pudding.  You can also slice your traditional Christmas pudding recipe first and serve warm, then place spoon fools of the sauce over the top.
