Christmas Trifle Recipe

How Do You Create A Christmas Trifle?

This homemade Christmas trifle recipe is also known as a traditional English trifle, and is eaten and enjoyed by all on Holidays as well as other special occasions throughout the year.

You will need 1 (9inch) sponge cake cut into cubes, 1 cup seedless raspberry jam, 8 ounces of fresh raspberries, 10 fluid ounces of heavy cream, 3 egg yolks, 3 table spoons white sugar, 10 ounces heavy cream, and 2 ounces sliced almonds.  After you have cut the sponge cake into bite size cubes, spread a little of the raspberry jam onto each piece and place it in the bottom of a large glass bowl, or a trifle bowl.  Sprinkle raspberries over the cake.

In a sauce pan, heat up the heavy cream over medium heat.  Meanwhile, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until pale yellow and smooth.  Strain yolk mixture into a clean bowl.  Pour the hot cream into the egg yolks and stir vigorously.  Return the mixture to the sauce pan over low heat and cook, stirring until thick enough to coat the back of a metal spoon.  Remove from heat and allow to cool.

While the custard is cooling, whip 10 fluid ounces of cream until soft peaks form.  Place almonds on a baking sheet and toast in a 300 degree over, or a toaster oven, stirring frequently until golden 2-10 minutes depending on your oven.  Spread cooled custard over cake bites in bowl.  Top with whipped cream and toasted almonds.  Chill at least 2 hours before serving and enjoying.
